The story:

It all started back in September 1999. I was staying up at the Alex Fraser Research Forest camp at Gavin Lake, BC with a bunch of friends. We had been playing poker regularly over the summer (after hard days of work, of course), and that evening we went over to Mike and Jenny's place for a game. We had invented the concept of "toggling" in poker; the first time a wild card turns up it is wild, but if it turns up again it toggles the first wild card (and itself) off, and they're both "off". If it turns up again, all the wild cards are wild again, etc. (This is a fun game, by the way, and often gets very confusing if there are several wild cards and some of them are hidden).

Anyway... that night Mike and Jenny had lit a fire and it got rather hot in the cabin. Jenny went to open the door, as she said it had gotten "fuggy" inside. We all looked at each other and then burst out laughing, as we thought we'd misheard her. None of us had heard of the word fuggy, and we ended up looking it up in the dictionary. Then went on playing poker.

As the night progressed, we started thinking up a slogan; [a few days later the Tour de Caribou was going to happen (the Williams Lake to Gavin Lake bike ride.... see links), and Jenny, Sam and Roly (Team Gavin) were going to participate. They'd bought some costumes and t-shirt paints, and they needed a slogan.] We came up with "Go with it, Gavin"....which worked (and was used).... but wasn't quite unique enough. So we started with fuggy toggling, Go toggle, fug the toggle.... until I said "how about Toggle the fug", and that was it!

So the t-shirts were painted, and we started using the phrase in our vocabulary. My brother quickly picked up on it and passed it on, and so many people have asked me what it means. This Christmas my brother and dad gave me this Internet domain, and here I am.
